What is a Virtual Domain?
A Virtual Domain means having your own domain name (http://www.your-name.com) without having to install expensive server hardware and software. With a Virtual Domain, you utilize our server's storage space, however you are still professionally represented via your own personal Internet web address domain name (www.your-name.com) and by your own personal E-Mail address domain name (you@your-name.com). Can I access my domain address with or without the "www"?
Yes, you will be able to access the domain address with or without the "www" in front of the domain name. Example: [http://www.your-name.com] or [http://your-name.com] is acceptable, whichever you prefer. Do you offer dial-up Internet access?
No, you will need local Internet access in order to maintain your web site and retrieve E-Mail addressed to your site. Do you handle the domain registration process?
We register .com, .net, .org, biz, .us, and .info domains through our NICForce.net subsidiary. Our Gold and Silver hosting accounts include free domain name registration and renewal. For other accounts and domains, registration is provided for only $14.95 per year. Country-code domains (e.g., .cc, .ca, .uk, etc.) must be registered through the appropriate name registrar for that country. If you want to register a country-code domain, you'll have to handle that process yourself. Can I transfer an existing domain to your servers?
Yes. You just need to modify your domain name record to point to our DNS (nameservers.) You may choose to keep the service with your current provider while waiting for the DNS change to propagate. We will provide you with a temporary address so you can mirror the site on our server. All E-Mail and web pages will still be accessed from your current site. When your domain registrar announces the completion of the transfer, there is a 24-72 hour propagation period where visitors could go to either site. At the end of the 72 hours, you should contact your previous host to have them delete the old domain from their records and update their DNS record. If you use this same provider for your Internet access you will not be able to access your domain site until they update their DNS. How long does it take before my domain name is active?
Once you receive confirmation that your domain name has been registered (or transferred, if applicable), it usually takes 24-72 hours before it is active. In the interim, you will have access to your server space on Your Domain Host's server, via your temporary address, so you can set up your web site. How do I transfer files to my web site?
You can upload your files via any FTP client or by using an HTML editor (like Microsoft FrontPage or DreamWeaver) that includes a file publishing function. You can also upload file through the Site Manager function of your web control panel. Will I have unlimited access to update my pages?
Yes, you have unlimited access via FTP and Telnet 24-hours a day. As such, you can create and maintain your web pages on your own computer and upload files to your web site at your leisure. Can I use my account for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use your account for commercial purposes or for any other purpose as long as your usage complies with our terms and conditions of service. How long does it take to set up a new account?
New accounts are set up within 24 hours of our acceptance of your order. Once an account is set up, an activation notice will be sent to you via E-Mail including your user-ID, password, and your temporary address, which you can use to connect to your account. Can I change my account type?
Yes, you can upgrade or downgrade account types at no additional cost. For some changes, it's just a matter of our "flipping a switch" to modify your account type. Other changes will require that you re-upload your web site files to a new location. CLICK HERE for the details. Do you provide technical support?
We believe that we provide the highest level of support available in the industry. Technical support is available 24/7 via e-mail and web-based support desk. Can I have additional domains pointing to my primary domain?
Yes, domain parking is available for a nominal one time setup fee plus any applicable domain name registration fees. Your parked domain will mirror the content of your primary domain. If you want the parked domain to display different content, you can redirect the parked domain to a subdirectory of your main account using the parking and redirection capability of your web-based control panel. Incoming e-mail is also aliased. In other words if you've parked myparkeddomain.com to myprimarydomain.com, e-mail addressed to anyname@myparkeddomain.com will be delivered to the anyname@myprimarydomain.com mailbox. Outgoing e-mail will always default to the primary domain name -- you will not be able to send mail from the parked domain. Can I register additional domains to point to a
subdirectory of my main domain?
Yes, you can accomplish this by 1) parking the additional domain to your primary account, and then 2) using the URL redirection capability of your web-based control panel. Additionally, we offer multiple domain discounts for clients with multiple hosting accounts. |
Are 3rd level domains available
(anyname.mydomain.com)?
Yes, as long as you have an existing domain (yourdomain.com) hosted on our servers, you can host or park a third-level domain (anyname.yourdomain.com) based on your primary domain. One advantage of third-level domains is that domain name registration is not needed. This means no domain registration fees. We offer a special half-price subdomain account that gives you all the features of our Gold premium account at half the price. This is a great way to increase your disk space, bandwidth, and other features utilizing a third-level subdomain. Can I have free subdomains?
No, we do not currently offer free subdomains. Subdomains, or third-level domains, are treated just like any other domain. See the preceding Answer for more information. Can I make changes to my domain's DNS zone records?
If we manage the DNS for your domain, we can make changes to your zone (MX, A, CNAME, etc.) records for a nominal one-time setup fee. Request these changes here. With our optional DNS Management Service, you can control all of your domain's zone records and make changes at any time without additional cost. Can I subdivide my space and resell it?
Yes, within our policy guidelines, your account is yours to do with as you wish. You can also request additional FTP accounts with limited access to a specific directory for a small additional setup charge. What if I go over my traffic allowance?
In all but the most extreme cases, an E-mail warning will be sent before this actually occurs. You will then have the opportunity to reduce traffic, purchase additional bandwidth, or disable your account for the remainder of the month. Can I get more server space if I need it?
Yes, you can either purchase additional disk space, or purchase our special half-price subdomain account for additional storage. Can I install my own cgi scripts?
Yes, each account has its own cgi-bin directory. Scripts can be run from any directory. The only restriction is that scripts that are outside of the cgi-bin must be named with .cgi instead of .pl We only monitor for poorly written scripts that may become resource hogs. Will server side includes work on your server (SSI)?
Yes, SSI's will parse on any page ending in .shtml. Can you host foreign domain names?
Yes. We currently house domains from over 100 countries. Do you maintain backups of my data?
We maintain a tape backup service on our shared hosting accounts. You can request a backup-restoral of files for a one-time charge. We make a good faith effort to ensure that backups are complete and accurate; however there is no guarantee of data availability or integrity. You are responsible for your own independent backup of data stored on our server and network. In some cases, backups may not be available for requested accounts or files. Customers are strongly advised to periodically and frequently backup data to their own local computer. Do you support ...
How will I be charged?
Our services are charged in advance on an automatic, recurring basis. This would be an excellent opportunity to review our Billing and Payment policies. Accounts that pay by automatic credit card or online check are charged 7 - 14 days prior to the expiration of the current paid hosting period. Accounts that are past due on the expiration date are suspended for 5 - 10 days, and then cancelled. How do I cancel my YourDomainHost account?
Cancellation procedures are detailed in our Terms & Conditions. In a nutshell, you simply complete our cancellation request form. In order to protect our clients from "bogus" cancellation requests, you must provide some means of authentication by providing your original account password or providing the first and last four digits of the credit card used to pay for your account. Important Note: You must request cancellation of your account to avoid further charges. We do not monitor account usage or domain name registrations, and we do not accept cancellation requests from unrelated third parties. We occasionally hear something like, "But I haven't used my account in 6 months -- why are you trying to bill me?" The telephone company bills you whether you talk on the phone or not because the service is available to you if you need it. The same is true with our service. |
